Two Note Based Approaches to Query by Singing/Humming
نویسنده
چکیده
This paper describes the submissions to the MIREX 2006 Query by Singing/Humming task delivered by Fraunhofer IDMT. The approach presented here is based on extracting the pitch out of monophonic singing (or humming), and hereafter segmenting and quantising it into a melody composed of discrete notes. Finally this melody is compared to a database of indexed melodies, using an error tolerant similarity search. Two algorithms have been submitted that differ in the melody extraction method, roughly characterised by the trade-off between accuracy of transcription (and therefore recall) and computing time needed. A third version accepting queries in midi format has also been submitted.

Mirex2008: Query by Humming/singing System
This extended abstract describes my submission to the QBSH (Query by Singing/Humming) task of MIREX (Music Information Retrieval Evaluation eXchange) 2008. The system takes advantage of note-based and frame-based matching methods to improve the accuracy of the Query by Singing/Humming system. First, Earth Mover’s Distance (EMD), which is note-based and much faster, is adopted to eliminate most ...
متن کاملAn Improved Query by Singing/Humming System Using Melody and Lyrics Information
This paper proposes an improved query by singing/humming (QBSH) system using both melody and lyrics information for achieving better performance. Singing/humming discrimination (SHD) is first performed to distinguish singing from humming queries. For a humming query, we apply a pitch-only melody recognition method that has been used for QBSH task at MIREX with rank-1 performance. For a singing ...
متن کاملQuery by Humming Using Locality Sensitive Hashing for Mirex 2008
We submit a method for the MIREX 2008 task “Query by Singing/Humming” based on locality sensitive hashing (LSH). The method constructs an index of melodic fragments by extracting pitch vectors from a database of melodies. In retrieval, the method automatically transcribes a sung query into notes and then extracts pitch vectors similarly to the index construction. For each query pitch vector, th...

This extended abstract details a submission to the Music Information Retrieval Evaluation eXchange in the Query by Singing/Humming task. The problem of query by singing consists of building a machine capable of simulating the cognitive process of identifying a musical piece from a few sung notes of its melody. In this work, the algorithms of pitch tracking, onset detection and melody matching u...

With the explosive growth of digital music, content-based music information retrieval especially query by humming/singing have been attracting more and more attention and are becoming popular research topics over the past decade. Although query by humming/singing can provide natural and intuitive way to search music, retrieval system still confronts many issues such as key modulation, tempo cha...
